Album Notes

Larry Williams - trumpet,flugelhorn,composer.

Larry is the sock that never turns up from the wash-room, and sometimes the apple that escapes from the basket on the way to the truck, but his music will delight you like a great chardonnay, like the feel of freshly laundered underwear.
His trumpet sound is; Bigger than a breadbox, better than a pizza-stomach.

"Life has a lot to offer. Not all of it is pleasant, but it's all useable in the creative process, like watching a sunrise, people's driving habits, or listening to small children play, everything has its own rhythm and/or melody" "Much of this so-called creative process for me
is about observing, and being an observer."

Originally from Orlando Florida, Larry Williams came to Los Angeles in l999, leaving behind an already celebrated career, which began early in life by winning many musical scholastic achievement awards. Among those accolades was holding principal trumpet in the Florida Youth Symphony, and all by the time he was 14.

While in Florida, Larry played and recorded with the best, including Ira Sullivan, Dave Liebman, Sam Rivers, Dizzy Gillespie, Danny Gottlieb, Nathan Page, Nat Adderley, George Mauro, Don Scaletta, Scott Whitfield, John Allred, Richard Drexler, and Mousey Alexander. Known throughout Central Florida as a headliner in his own right, Larry shared the spotlight with the likes of The Rippingtons, Richard Elliot, Special FX, David Benoit, Kevin Eubanks and many others, performing at events like the Kool Jazz Festival and the Orlando JazzFest.

Since coming to L.A. Larry has been involved in projects and performances alongside established jazzmen; Ernie Watts, Bill Watrous, Peter Erskine, Alan Pasqua, Brandon Fields, Shelly Berg, Bunny Brunel, Brian Auger, Eric Marienthal, Carl Saunders, and Bobby Shew.

-or you may have seen him playing his horn on an episode of "Friends", "Jag", "Providence," "ER", or the feature film, "Heartbreakers" or "Ernest Saves Christmas."

Blah blah blah, blah blah....

...about "the Bridge"

This session is evidence that picking the right guys for the gig always leads to something great.
"There were little, to no instructions given in the studio." Larry remarks, " Though we had never played the tunes before, everyone (John, Shelly, Dan & Rob) seemed to have this ESP thing going on with my music."

REVIEWS

thoughtfully constructed compositions/arrangements, supportive rhythm section(s)

The tunes are sweet! They sound fun to play. whether they are original and arrangements are very well constructed, and the album flows nicely. The rhythm section(s) are very supportive overall, I love the drum/ bass hook up on track one, which it seems was a new melody over the framework of the standard, stella by starlight. Nice work, LW! I woulnt expect anything else from you.

Brilliant writing, flawless playing and a pure delight!
author: M.Piszczek
"The Bridge" is by far my favorite Larry Williams album! It courageously walks a fine line between traditional bop , experimental and modern styles without sounding forced or gratuitous. The band has the chops to pull off William's more complicated compositions and the sensitive touch required to explore his soulful and deeply introspective ballads. His great technical agility is a given, but it is his warm, rich and focused trumpet sound that transcends the common practice of the genre and most of his peers as well. His sophisticated and graceful composition, "on the 25th.day should" should be nominated for a Grammy ... maybe two.
