On his sophomore release, This Strange Place (2006), New Haven, CT-based singer/songwriter, Mike Lasala (pronounced luh-sal-uh), merges gritty vocals, classic rock influences, and pop sensibilities to create “[an album] that could be huge on classic rock, modern rock or adult contemporary radio,” says an industry insider. A seasoned solo acoustic performer in his own right, Lasala enlisted a backing band for the 11 song offering—allowing him to realize his creative vision, while still affording the flexibility of being able to perform the songs live in a variety of configurations (i.e. solo acoustic, duo, trio, or quartet). “While I generally describe my style as acoustic rock, I think the album’s style is best described as neo-classic rock,” says Lasala—who cites Neil Young, Cat Stevens, John Mellencamp and The Doors among his many influences. The album was recorded, mixed and master by Pete Szymanski at Whitehouse Studios in Shelton, CT.

Absolute calm

I came in possession of Mikes album from a family member during my first tour in Iraq and I gotta say, it had an absolute calming effect in the midst of sporadic chaos. I doubt this was his intent. This new album has a little more edge to it and delivers a message without being preachy. Very highly recommended.

All you have to do is click on listen & I guarantee you'll want to own a copy of This Strange Place. Intelligent lyrics, crazy lead guitar, back-up music and vocals - this album has songs that GRAB you, make you SING ALONG, and MOVE. Very highly recommended!! Too bad the many fans who asked me to buy this album for them, can't leave reviews due to lack of internet access; but I know they're SINGING ALONG now! Gotta' go - I've got Somewhere To Be - buy that one too!!

This one's got it all: songs that will make you move as well as make you think and plenty of great hooks. Mike Lasala has once again delivered a collection of songs that are as soulful (George the Gifter) as they are rocking(Where I Dwell). You'll love this one for sure. PS: This guy has CRAZY guitar chops!
