Last One Picked is an all original rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area. With a respectful nod given to their rural roots, LOP plays a brand of honest, American rock music. Absolutely committed to energetic, live shows, LOP is dedicated to giving the audience their “money’s worth”. Influenced by the older material of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, ZZ Top, The Rolling Stones, BTO, Counting Crows, Better Than Ezra, Barenaked Ladies, Wilco, the Old 97’s and others, LOP’s varied material is inviting and comfortable. Songs turn into sing-a-longs, performances turn into parties, and cover songs are mixed in (many times out of left field and impromptu). Always willing (hell, eager) to share a toast and a cocktail with their audience, the group’s goal is to reach every last patron in the room and send them home with a smile and memories of a very good time.
Last One Picked’s debut CD, “Strangers & Consequences”, is a 12 song adventure. From the hard driving opener “Bandolero” to the radio ready “New Orleans”, to the raucous “Sore Loser, to the tender “Salesman”, this record is a musical adventure where the listener is invited to tag along. The album was recorded entirely in Oakland, California at Electric Sparky Land Studios, engineered by Mike Blodgett (Rootbeer, Worry Doll), was produced by Chip Johnson (the group’s principal singer & songwriter) and was mastered by Ty Tabor of King’s X (one of the world’s great guitar players and a brilliant recording artist in his own right). The album truly captures the spectrum that LOP is very comfortable covering; offering a little something for everyone – all of it good, fun and honest.
Johnson is joined on “Strangers & Consequences”, and on stage, by Tim Rich (Bass), Bob Chamberlin (lead guitar) and Kyle Pesonen (drums). The combined resumes of the four range from SuperBowl performances and European tours all the way to local open mics and neighborhood bars.

Excellent Adult Rock CD

"Strangers & Consequences" by Last One Picked brings back that raw 90s Americana Rock sound we've been missing for so many years. Each song on the album has an upbeat and fun sing-a-long feel, twangy melodic guitars, and a solid rhythm section to keep your foot tapping. The musicianship on the CD is totally professional. The lead vocalist, Chip Johnson, has a similar timbre in his voice to Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows, and delivers honesty and the right amount of energy to make the songs work. The horn section on certain tracks, adds a nice depth to the music. The track that stands out the most "Nothing At All" catches you from the start with a contagious guitar progression and a unique chorus hook. The production is very clean, which allows each instrument of tihs tight band, to stand out in the recording. If you enjoy bands such as Counting Crows you'll enjoy this CD.
