The Last Town Chorus haunts Brooklyn, NY, and is led by the singular voice and ethereal lap steel playing of Megan Hickey. The Last Town Chorus has shared the stage with The Innocence Mission, Hem, Amy Allison, The Jayhawks, Ida, Mary Lorson, and many others. The debut album has been slowly creeping around the globe based on listener affection and critical intrigue.
"A highly seductive debut set to spellbind a whole new set of languid disciples"
- Uncut, UK
"Sultry, narcotic pop... I've played their self-titled debut to death...
- Village Voice, New York
"Few have sounded this exquisitely mournful since Mazzy Star split up...That they can address the pleasures of urban life, while sounding so utterly dislocated from it, is what makes the Last Town Chorus so unusually poignant"
- The Times, London
"Songs like 'Dear City' and 'Brooklyn Navy Yard, 1950' take urban vignettes and repaint them with the lilt and humidity of rural Americana: a pretty affecting feat."
-The Observer, London

I saw this band playing a couple shows for the Innocence Mission, and bought the album. I haven't stopped playing it. It's gorgeous. There's a girl playing lapsteel and sings. These are intense, haunting songs, and beautiful harmonies. Every friend who hears it ends up buying it. Really a magical record.

A haunting dusky set of songs, sparsely played on lap steel and voice
author: Justin from San Diego
I read about this band in Paste Magazine and was intrigued. After trying the sample tracks on the band's website I was hooked and had to have more. I guess I'm a junkie for lush and reverb-y lap steel and somewhat haunting female voice. Get this CD if you like stuff like Iron and Wine, Mazzy Star, Calexico or even Portishead for that matter.
I recommend putting it on the car stereo for a long twilight ride in a desolate place, with all the windows rolled down.
