The Latrells are a San Francisco-based, vocal-laced
psychedelic soul band flavored with pop, hip-hop, R&B and rock. Influences include Motown greats - The Temptations and The Jackson 5, as well as The Neptunes, A Tribe Called Quest, Sly & The Family Stone, Outkast, The Kinks, plus anything on the Stax/Volt record label. The line-up includes former members of noted local bands !TANG, The Marginal Prophets, La Orquesta Internacional, Bizarre Bazare and Zircus.
With tight, contemporary harmonies in the foreground, they focus on great dance-inducing songs that pay homage to groups like Booker T. & The M.G.'s, The Meters, The Funk Brothers and The Roots. Shows can be 40 minutes of edgy, bumpin', neo-soul, or three-hour, freestyle, old-school groove sessions. Either way, The Latrells are an exciting band to see and hear.

Soul, funk, rock with pop sensibilty. A fun, ejoyable listen (solid live too!)

Out of the Box lives upto its name and delivers something different and fresh. Quality soul and funk licks and vocals balanced by pop/rock song writing. Solid throughout with no dud tracks makes the Latrells an easy listen, but yet to see how it stands the test of time.

Great Pop/R&B Recording

Out the Box is a great pop/soul/psychedelic album full of pop gems with catchy hooks and soulful jams. The vocal harmonies recall Stax artists Sam & Dave, Motown's Jackson 5 and even *gasp* the Beatles. I've seen these guys live and they're definitely for real -- a bumpin' live show to go with a top-notch recording. I recommend this recording to anyone who loves catchy songwriting and soulful hooks.

Good use of the guitars. I like that low end bass drum. Re-examine the Low End Theory and maybe a couple of early stax and definitely keep writing... something good can happen !
