Cobalto takes the listener on a sensory tour of the Italian countryside. From standing on a mountain overlooking a beautiful valley, to standing on a distant seashore, to walking through a cool, shadowy forest, to taking a simple Piano Lesson and melting into a romantic daydream. Cobalto is music for all the senses.

“Cobalto” - the shade of blue which Gianni felt “colored” this album the best - turns out to be the right hue indeed. Not blue as in sad, but blue as in bright yet serene. This is music that will take you from wherever you are to a spot by the sea, where you can relax and revive your senses, to a club where you see Gianni himself on the keyboard.
Interestingly enough, “Piano Lesson” is our favorite. It sounds so simple at first, and reminds us of our own early piano lessons. But it is not simple at all - and the complexity picks up as the tune continues. Backed up by the perfect synthesized orchestral accompaniment, it begins to remind us of Mozart’s much more complicated version of Salieri’s simple piece composed for the introduction of Mozart to the Emperor (in “Amadeus”).
Gianni uses the piano and synthesizer together in ways that create so many senses-stimulating sounds. “Tramonto” is a purely classical rendering - and yet leaves you by the sea instead of dragging you to the concert hall.
“Thorn” is perhaps the most unusual cut on the CD. You can see nomads pitching their tents on the sand, and playing their native flutes. So incredibly exotic and lovely!
“Tema N6” is one of the songs that will have your spirit sipping a drink in a special lounge after your day at the sea - though the sounds of the waves will still be wafting through your head. “My Little Tiffany” could be the theme song of a movie - where you are relaxing the next day before heading to the beach.
We’ll let you decide what you think of the other wonderful cuts. But see if you don’t agree with us.
Gianni Latrofa takes you on quite a musical vacation. Just on one CD. Don’t miss it.
