“Lattimore’s lead vocals sum up what love is all about – simple, beautiful, and honest” – words from the Atlanta based DJ Emmerald regarding the Chicago-born powerhouse known as Alex Lattimore. Poised to take the world by storm with his new solo project entitled “Promise,” Alex Lattimore will soon become a household name. With a mixture of R & B, contemporary jazz, and blues, each track promises to catch the ear of its listener and take them to the place of their heart’s desire.
Alex, who finished both a South Africa and a Japan tour with the Ananda Project (March – April 2008) headed by Grammy-nominated producer Chris Brann, is a man of many talents. Most recently, he was a Future of Jazz Competition finalist and performed at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Super Summer Celebration at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, and at Villa Christina’s 4th Annual Summer Jazz Series. Whether listeners are appreciating his smooth vocals and trumpet on the Julie Dexter/Khari Simmons’ “Moon Bossa” album or hearing his satin voice on the duet The Matrimony that he co-wrote with Rhonda Thomas, Alex is known for bringing his gifts to add just the right touch to any music project.
Serving as the male vocalist in the former Giant Step Records performing group Jiva, led by Khari Simmons (former bass player for India.Arie), Alex has been notably compared to the vocal stylings of such artists as Luther Vandross and Will Downing. At the early age of 5, he began his musical journey which led him to perform with a host of phenomenal groups and orchestras such as the Chicago Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Sherwood Conservatory Brass Ensemble, Roosevelt University Jazz Band, and the University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra. His journey continued in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as both a horn player and lead/background vocalist with a number of local, national, and internationally-based acts. This platform allowed him to showcase his countless talents as a songwriter, arranger, instrumentalist, and vocalist.
With his dynamic abilities, Alex was catapulted into opportunities to open for and perform with internationally renowned artists like Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Michael McDonald, India.Arie, Earl Klugh, The Rippingtons, Groove Collective, Roy Ayers, Kindred the Family Soul, Loose Ends, and Maysa Leak. He also collaborated with D.J. Kemit (formerly of the Grammy award winning group Arrested Development), releasing a single entitled Rush Hour which found its place on the P-Vine Records compilation “Sol Com Bossa”. Alex’s highly anticipated debut album “Promise” brings him full circle on his path as a multi-talented musician. With songs such as A Million Ways and the remake of the Kenny Burke hit Keep Risin’ to the Top already garnering attention, “Promise” is well on its way to being a huge success. The album was considered for a Grammy nomination in the “Best Jazz Vocal Album” category for the 2009 Grammy Awards – a giant accomplishment for an independent artist! In the words of one adoring fan, “If you want a good, no, out of the world CD that will bring you back to the reality of life, this is it. The best thing in life you have to not look for. Let them find you, such as love and this CD.”

Smooth Soul with a two capital S's!!
author: MARK GENTRY
I am knocked out by this album. Alex has a fantastic voice complemented by the wonderful soulful sounds on this album. One of the best for 2008 for my money. He states Will Downing as one of his influences but this guy is a star in his own right. Anybody daring to cover a classic anthem such as Keni Burkes "Rising To The Top" is a very brave person, but Alex's version of this song is just brilliant and he really enhances the original version with some excellent sax player - sheer magic! There are no filler tracks on this album - it is filled from start to finish with the best soul music around. Buy this album today - and recharge your soul!!
