(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Cinematic, spacious and poetic, the songs of Laughingstock pull you in with layered textures and driving rhythms while celebrating the victories, defeats, and spirituality of the every day.

notes

This is the first album by Laughingstock, recorded by Alex Nahas in his bedroom and rehearsal studio on ADAT and cassette 8-track. Featuring the dark and aggressive trash-can drumming style of Eric Gebow (currently touring the US with Blue Man Group), this record is as intimate as it is intense.

  • A Talk Talkish disk
    author: Garold Casler

The influence of Talk Talk is very evident on this CD, especially on the first two tracks where the keyboard and drum kit sound like something straight from Talk Talk's "Spirit of Eden" or "Laughing Stock" There are also some parallels lyrically, but Nahas isn't as spiritually abstract as Mark Hollis. Nahas' vocals, at least to me, brought to mind Paul Buchanan (of The Blue Nile) and at times Cy Curnin (of The Fixx). An excellent disk!
