Azalea City Recording Artist Laura Baron is a deeply moving singer-songwriter who blends folk, blues and jazz. Her evocative poetry touches the heart and awakens the imagination.
Laura has won recognition for 5 songs on her self titled CD. The Mid-Atlantic Song Contest honored Peace Someday with a Gold Award. Seabird, Black Madonna, and We Will Stand Together were recognized as finalists, and the UK Songwriting Contest selected Cedar Mountain as a finalist.
"Laura's songs soar with rhythm, beauty and intelligence. What a rare combination. Her music is equal to and serves her lyrics, demanding your attention. The lyrics stand as
poems alone, but to our good fortune her music and
arrangements give them their flight and their power to
penetrate our souls. Yet, in each song, it is her voice that seduces us, it is poignant while full while gentle. It is unique as is her product. Pick any one of her songs and discover a voice you need to hear".
Terry D. Kester, WPFW
"She sings of such intimate emotions that this music could only be hers. Stay With Me confesses a vulnerability that most of us would never touch...Arrangements are meaningful too -- the mellow mediation Peace Someday is carried lightly by strings, while Black Madonna is haunted by layered harmony vocals . . . a CD of admirable heart".
Takoma Voice
"Laura Baron touches, challenges, and inspires the listener with her smooth vocals, soothing melodies, and moving lyrics. Her contemplative message of peace, love, hope, and eauty will keep fans coming back for more".

This work is diverse, pleasing to the ear, and my favorite thing..Not Overproduced! Laura's smooth voice is up front with nice/timely backing vocals and solid musicianship behind her. Very nicely produced and a work to be proud of.

Black Madonna is awesome - a primal poem of rock proportions: "My name is numbered as the skybirds...My voice spoke leaves upon the trees... My hands formed grasses for the wild herds, when god was still a woman like me..." The songs on this CD are varied as Laura's talents. From jazzy "Seabird" to downhome "Back to Cedar Mountain" to fun and avant garde "Fisher King." In 2005 Laura was nominated by Washington Area Music Assn as best contemporary folk female vocalist. Listen to this CD and you will hear why. Go to her website and be sure to listen to the full version of "Laundry Man Blues!" Every girl needs one of these!
