Album Notes

Having played the piano since age 8, Laura picked up the guitar at 16 and started writing music. After dropping out of art school, she moved out west to the rocky mountains to pursue her music. By the time she decided to move back east to her hometown of Annapolis, MD, she had written over 200 songs. Upon moving home, she recorded and produced her first full length cd in her basement and started playing shows more often. Within a year, she played over 70 gigs, moving up from local coffeehouses, to more esteemed music venues like The Knitting Factory in New York City, and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

Often playing solo, Laura's live shows have often been described as "better than the cd" and seem to connect the audience emotionally. Her songs have been described as emotional and heartbreaking but strangely enough set to an upbeat tempo, hers is the type of music you find yourself humming, and find yourself eager to share.

Usually I can pretty put anything into words, but this time I'm at a loss for them. the best thing I can say is to get to know this CD is to listen to it. this is for sure a strange and beautiful trip. Not sure if it's for everyone, but I've always been interested in anything that sounds interesting.

What a debut!

An acoustic delight. Outstanding arrangements for a one-woman show. Laura's songwriting ability combines pleasant melodies with lyrics of a more seasoned poet. She has the gift of getting a message across with just the right words. A voice reflective of Natalie Merchant, only smoother. I love it!

Growing on me with every listen.

A little gem. Very interesting lyrics, songs that grow on you with every listen, and one of the most beautiful voices one has heard in a long time. There's a warmth to Laura's voice that, coupled with the sparseness of her guitar/piano accompaniment, makes you feel that she's singing just for you, and you feel that you want -rather than spread the word (which I suppose is what the artist would like)- keep her as your secret discovery.
