Light and Lilty to Strong and Driving....This CD has it all.

As a player and avid listener of Irish music, I have to say that Laura Byrne's CD, Tune for the Road, stands out as one of my favorites to listen to. From the opening track, Sliabh Russell grabs you with a galloping guitar rhythm upon whose back Byrne's flue deftly maneuvers, racing down a winding and hilly road of lovely embellishments that shows true mastery of the tune. The Oslo Waltz also stands out as a winner, where Byrne's flute is expertly paired with an accordion that really anchors this waltz in a place, where, if you close your eyes, you would swear that you were in a 1920's immigrant cafe in some city some where. All in all, an impressive collection of tunes well played.

Traditional music beautifully played, lively and with great feeling.

This is one of the best CDs I have heard in awhile. The music is played with beautiful traditional style, and with great feeling. The “Oslo Waltz” will bring tears to your eyes and raise the hairs on your arms. It still does for me and I have this CD worn out! The set of airs with Donna Long are beautiful the second of which, Captain O’Kane’s is actually lovely waltz time. The jigs with Peter Fitzergerald on banjo, The Cordal Jig/Vincent Campbell’s, are lively and beautifully played. Laura’s playing of Billy’s composition, Elizabeth Cullen, allows you to hear the lovely tone she gets from the wooden flute and is played with perfect tempo. The reels will have you dancing around your kitchen too! This is a great recording of traditional Irish music.

I am a newcomer to the Irish Music world and was surprised to learn how much I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. Not only is it educational in content but uplifting for the spirit. Laura Byrne is an exceptional artist who will inspire you to listen to each tune in its entirety and leave you with a sense of inner peace and joy. I encourage everyone to send this CD to friends and family who may not have had this type of musical experience in the past. For those of us who have not yet traveled to Ireland it will excite you like none other. Thanks Laura and friends for the hard work you all did in releasing this wonderful masterpiece.
