Album Notes

Hi there, folks.

250 copies of this CD were made. When they're gone, they're gone, as Laura considers this first recording to be more of a demo than an actual album. It was recorded over a span of 4 hours at an old church turned recording studio in Ithaca, NY. Entirely solo-acoustic. Entirely Laura. :o)

This CD is the best. I have almost all of Laura's music on my iPod and listen to it quite frequently. Definitely recommended for everyone!

Intelligent and catchy music (with choruses)
author: Lydia Dempsey
Good music with intelligent lyrics, and tunes that stay in my head for a while. I like the way she does the choruses; they blend well with the rest of the tune, instead of jumping out at you with a completely different melody.

Lyric intensive, chorus-free, beautiful folk music.
author: Andrew "Webby" Webster
This first CD for Joy is a simple, effective, fully enjoyable release. The guitar arrangements, as is typical for most folk music, are not extremely complex, yet are melodic and completely fitting for her lyrical style and voice. The latter of these things are really the high points of the disc. Her voice is simply put, beautiful. It helps her tremendously in carrying out an album of 9 songs that lyrically are very deep. Being free of any lyrical refrains/choruses, it allows her to make the songs deeper and mostly free of repetition. It'd be very interesting to hear more of what she can do on the guitar, either on a purely instrumental track, or through extended instrumental bridges in future releases. As this album stands though, it is a good piece of refreshingly thoughtful folk rock, driven by gorgeous vocals and engaging lyrics. More like 4.5 Stars than 4.
