Album Notes

A Vintage Christmas takes you back in time with earthy, rich vocals, yet also puts a new sultry edge to songs we all know and love so much. The songs that were chosen for this album are songs that spark a lot of different moods but are all heartfelt. You have a full plate of music here- from jazz, to soft rock, to standards and even a touch of classical music. Besides the beautiful grand piano you hear by the "Rockville Piano Guy"- Andrew Kraus, Laura uses lots of unique instrumentation and teams up with Washington D.C.'s finest jazz tenor, Jason Paul Curtis, to give you a great performance of "Baby, It's Cold Outside." She also features some members from her brand new band that covers today's top 40 hits around the D.C. area- they are so new that they don't even have a name yet!

The inspiration to record, produce, and even engineer her own album (outside of being relentlessly curious and a stubborn DIY woman) came from the magic she felt during the holidays when growing up as a young child. Her parents got creative to make sure their kids believed in all things possible. One year, they grabbed a bag of flour, glitter, and a stencil of a boot print to make it look like Santa left magical snowy footprints from the fireplace to underneath the Christmas tree, and then of course to the plate of cookies. When she and her sister awoke the next morning, Laura knew this would be a day that she would never forget. Now she wants to share that same enchantment with her listeners.

There is still so much more to come from Miss Mills. Look for her first original single to release in 2012! When Laura is not writing or recording music, teaching yoga or burning the midnight oil in the ceramics studio, she enjoys hiking, planning themed parties with her best friend and watching The Office with her #1 inspiration- her brand new fiance! They met at Penn State University, not through studying but rather singing together in an eccentric and super fun Acapella group. They plan to marry in 2013 in the woods like Bella and Edward with a very unusual music set list.
