Stellar Freshman album from an up and comer!
Simple, elegant, hummable tunes predominate in Faces and Places, and Miss Ostler's clean vocals vary between the playful and the heart-breakingly soulful in this, her first album. While it's obvious that Ben Folds influenced the songs Made For Me, and It's Not Me, It's You. A little Coldplay crops up in For a While and Dragonfly. It's also easy to make comparisons to Norah Jones, though Laura's range is greater, and she lacks the huskiness so prevalent in Ms. Jones' vocals.
Perhaps the greatest compliment I can pay Laura is that not only has her CD been playing constantly since I got my copy, but I decided to use Goodnight, Sleep Tight in my latest film.

Hum Baby!
A very nice pure sound. No gimmicks - gentle melodies that you can listen to again and again.
