Album Notes

Laura Pellegrino has been playing music professionally since she was a junior in high-school growing up in Tulsa Ok. She has played in so many configurations and in so many cities, it boggles the mind to merely contemplate her credit report. L.A., New Orleans, Baltimore, Austin, and most recently, Buenos Aires, Argentina, are just a few of the cities Laura has called home. An avid music fan and a singer from very early on, Laura grew up simultaneously studying classical voice, listening to Ricki Lee Jones, and partying to Led Zeppelin. Then somewhere during her junior year, Laura fell hard for the blues, thanks to a locally syndicated show on her hometown radio station, KMOD, which was promoting an upcoming show for the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Laura spent 4 years in that music-loving city playing full-time in all of its most prestigious clubs, (La Zona Rosa, Continental Club, and Antone's Home of the Blues, to name just a few) alongside many of its most well-known players. Among them were past, present, and future members of Poi Dog Pondering, Burning Spear, Mojo Nixon, Bob Schneider's band, the Resentments, Marcia Ball Band, Ugly Americans, Ian McLagin's Bump Band and the Scabs. Two consecutive years she was invited to play the prestigious SXSW music conference. She has had the opportunity to sing alongside the Double Trouble Rhythm section, Doyle Bramhall junior, Bones Malone (Aretha Franklin and Blues Brothers fame) and Keb Mo' . The Austin music scene conspired to instill in Laura a strong affinity towards roots-based music, quality songwriting, screaming guitar, XXX salsa, Tex-Mex and Tx. barbecue. And although Laura's songwriting is uniquely her own, and not entirely the domain of Austin, Tx. it is inherently infused with much of the same sensibilities. Currently Laura is making her home in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she also obsessively dances Argentine Tango (Really!).

My house just burned down, so I'm writing this from a public internet cafe`... If you get passed imagining her performing those tunes on stage; if you can ignore for a second the mastery of the guitars and drums; if you dim the attention to the soul-carving lyrics; if you don't let your hormones get awaken by the haunting voice... maybe then you can use this CD to fall asleep. And watch your speed if you play this in your car... I'm rocked away.... P.S.: no, if you cut the picture on page 9 of the booklet and copy it on a 80x60 to put it in your room you are violating a copyright...

You have to get this CD
author: Stacey Williams
House Burnin' Down is in short, just good music. Well written, played, interesting. Nice mix of percussion and guitars, drums and vocals. Each song as different as the next. The more I listened, the more I wanted to listen. This cd is really really good. I almost gave up hope that someone would put out something this good. Thank you for making real music again. I have hope. Buy House Burnin Down. It will be the cd in your cd player all the time.
