REVIEWS

Whimsical, honest and true (if that is not too cryptic)
author: Katie Schacht
I have never really written a review before, so please bear with me. Basically what I want to say is that it is a good CD. The songs are about her real, day-to-day life, but they are put in a way that you can relate. There are happy days, bad days, regretful day, and dreaming days. The title song is by far my favorite because I love when a story/myth is put to song, like in most celtic and folk songs. Its whimsical and always puts me in a good mood. Its worth the money for it's creative energy alone, but it also is just a good CD to have on in the background while you are reading a book on a Sunday afternoon.

I really enjoy Joni's music; it's down to earth and fun!

My favorite is "Sunday Dinner", partly because I know the restaurant, a few of the "family members", and I have seen this group come in while dining there. It's so down-home with fun, funny descriptions of her "family". You don't need to know them to picture them. It speaks to my condition; I, too, have extended family that is not my official family. I like the whole CD because she just tells stories about ordinary people's lives in a very pleasant musical setting.

I bought this on a whim, but it had to be good intuition.

This CD has a good influence on moods: makes the chip on the shoulder slide right off, the blues fade to cheerier colours and gives hope. I couldn't say if I would call this "country," "folk," or slip it inbetween the two categories. It's ear candy with a message that makes one hopeful, easy to listen to or allow to play in the background. The accompaniment doesn't overpower the vocals and there's no sense of the vocalist straining. It is almost as if she were just talking to you over a cuppa tea at the local coffee house, but it turns into magical, gripping rhythms and gentle harmonies which smooth the sharp edges off life and make all good things seem possible, all bad things endurable because you have such an understanding friend sharing the moment.
