Lauren Echo was selected "Best Female Musician Signed or Unsigned" and a prize winner in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She is a passionate and soulful singer, songwriter with a smoky voice that is sure to invite you in to listen. In her songs there is a recurring theme of freedom and triumph as she exposes her vulnerability with spirit, dignity and emotion. Whether she is playing piano or guitar, Lauren's intense sound will inspire and move you. During her live performances Lauren connects with her audience and you feel her singing directly from her heart into yours.
A native New Yorker, Lauren grew up with music "in the blood". Both parents passed their talent on to her; mom is a classical pianist and her late father was a flute player and photographer. Lauren has been a professional singer since she was a child. Her distinct voice and wide range of vocal talents have been featured on numerous albums and soundtracks as well as many national television voice-overs.
After emerging from the Antifolk songwriters scene in the Lower East Side, and playing the New York clubs, Lauren took her music on the road touring to promote her first album, "Reflection from a Surface". Released on her own label, Valentine Records, Best Female Musicians Singed or Unsigned says, "This is a fantastic debut album and deserves some attention." Lauren is currently working on her second album and continues to tour playing clubs, cafés and festivals up and down the East Coast. She intends to return to London and tour other parts of Europe and America as well.
"Lauren Echo's music defies classification. She is an intelligent songwriter who is well grounded and on her way to a very successful career. Lauren is gifted with a strong and sexy voice."
Best Female Musicians Signed or Unsigned
"Reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge or Sheryl Crow . . . her catchy ballads are comparable to the jazzy harmonies of Bonnie Raiit . . . her mood is soulful, artistic, and filled with emotion."
What's Hot! Magazine
"Lauren's original material is delivered with emotion to spare . . . puts on one hell of a live show."
Savannah Connect
"Echo's debut (Reflection from a Surface)opens with It's You, which carries the bravado of Melissa Etheridge-style folk rock. Her real potential shines in the more restrained jazz-inflected tunesTwo Steps Closer and Don't Go Off Mad."
Sun Sentinel
"This CD is an acoustic, raw and soulful delivery of Lauren's newest sounds...check it out!!"
The Beat
"Lauren Echo emerged from the Lower East Side's anti-folk singer/songwriter scene with a deep, soulful voice, acoustic rock with a jazzy groove - some beautiful stuff."
