Album Notes

Lauren Smith grew up just outside of NYC and spent her childhood immersed in and inspired by the music of Broadway, off-Broadway, and the operas that graced the city’s stages. Developing her voice through classical and jazz vocal training, Lauren emerged as a folk singer, when she began to play guitar as a teen.

Lauren has evolved into a refreshingly spunky vocal enchantress. With poetic lyrics that span topics both personal and political she keeps her audience longing to solve the subtle enigmas of her songs. The dynamism of her character is reflected in her musical diversity: from slow, swelling and mantra-like to intricate, fast-paced, punchy and urgent. In a style that’s down to earth and conversational, she can’t help but exude exquisite poise, warmly hypnotizing her listeners.

Now, a Brooklyn resident, Lauren has played at many NYC venues including CBGB’s, The Knitting Factory and The Bitter End. If you are in the New York City area come on out to a show and Lauren will serenade you.

This debut album offers an excellent collection of melodies, tempo, and moods, plus lyrics that are really worth listening to (i.e., not just hearing as background for the music). Kudos!

What a surprise! A fresh new voice with something to say and the musical know-how to say it. This young artist should go far. It's a privilege to hear her in this performance when she's just starting out.

If you like a totally original sound that gets under your skin, buy this CD. Lauren's voice is fabulous, and her style is kind of folk/jazz/pop/blues/rap. Very hard to catagorize, but GREAT to listen to. Lyrics are fascinating-really make you think. WOW!
