Album Notes

"I came back to St. John for a visit in December of ‘95 after living in Texas for 14 years. An old pickin’ buddy took me to a little club called, Sea Breeze, to hear a band. That was the first time heard the music of Jay and Laurie Keefe, and I have been a fan ever since. A few years later I moved back to St John and we started playing some gigs together. Later, fiddler extraordinaire, Brian Silber, returned to the island and joined our group. Laurie suggested the name, Hot Club of Coral Bay, in reference to two of our musical heroes, Django Reinhardt and Stefan Grappelli. This recording features mostly the swinging side of the group with Laurie’s vocals front and center. We recorded it live in the studio with no added bells or whistles. I’m very proud to be playing with this group as well as this recording."
- Ike Eichenberg

This lively and energetic group of musicians is a regular fixture in the clubs of St. John in the Virgin Islands. Their instrumentals get you up and dancing, while the honey warmth and range of Laurie’s vocals have delighted listeners for years. On this CD her great styling as lead vocalist is backed up by hot licks on the mandolin, fiddle and guitar.

Laurie and Jay live on St. John for the winter months, and then return to their hometown of Gloucester, Massachusetts in the spring and summer. They often gig with their well-known bluegrass group, Old Cold Tater, featuring Dana King on banjo, Fran Clark on guitar, and Fred Buck on bass. Laurie wrote the bluesy, Nothing But Heartache, and the lively, Dance 'til Dawn. Ike Eichnberg renders his own tunes, You Belong in New Orleans and Take Me Places, with his trademark energetic guitar licks, adding hot vocals for Take Me Places. Fiddler, Brian Silber and Ike Eichenberg are recognized and experienced musicians, both on the island and state side. Brian and Ike have both released several CDs on their own, and Ike has backed up many well known recording artists. Jay Keefe is an exceptional mandolin player and this album features some solo breaks that are breathtaking. Laurie has just released her first solo album "The Middle of the Storm" recorded with Old Cold Tater in Gloucester during a wild nor'easter' and on St John with The HotClub of Coral Bay.
