Laurie lives on St. John, V.I. for the winter months where she performs with the ever popular "Hot Club of Coral Bay".She returns to her hometown of Gloucester,MA for the spring and summer months and often gigs with her well known bluegrass band "Old Cold Tater". " The Middle of the Storm " was recorded with Old Cold Tater in Gloucester during a wild nor'easter and on St. John with The Hot Club of Coral Bay.Laurie wrote the autobiographical title track and several other cuts ranging from the bluesy "All the Time" to the swinging "Lost Without Your Love". The album also features two Ike Eichenberg originals, the gorgeous "Tango "written by Morris Manning ,an a cappella gospel song and other traditional and standard numbers.

Becoming addicted to Laurie . . .
author: Steve Young
Laurie's music is simply addicting, especially her original compositions. For the uninitiated (and with humble respect to Laurie), think a la Cheryl Wheeler, Joan Baez, Maria Muldaur, Judy Collins, Gillian Welch and even Michelle Shocked. Ultimately, though, she is distinct even among these icons. Buy it and you'll hear what I mean -- I haven't stopped playing this CD for days . . .

Fantastic performances in a dazzling mix of originals and classics
author: GKeefe
A fantastic CD, I love the mix, but every song is emotionally charged and powerful. It's hard to pick a favorite tune; 'The Middle of the Storm' is a raw heart-breaker, while 'Lost Without Your Love' is a blend of top-tapping classic genres, and 'Comes Love' just cracks me up. A great mix of musicians put their time, love and talent into the project, and it shows how much love and talent (if not always time!) this extended family of pickers and jammers has!

An eternal balance between vocalist and musicians.
author: Jay& Aliice Zawacki
Laurie Keefe, The Middle of the Storm, is a voice worth traveling to hear, say to St. John or to Gloucester, MA. Never sticky or thin, Laurie's voice has the same subtle warmth of Ella's. She savors the lyrics as well as the rhythmic line so one listens for meaning and emotional effect. As befitting a singer who can vault from blues, country, pop, and swing with grace and, shall we use it?, verve, Laurie and her musical associates are in eternal balance.
