Press Review:
"Matthaeus Winnitzki, piano and keyboard player, has called his own miniature orchestra into being – lautgut 76. He, the mastermind of the band, takes a stroll through various styles of jazz at will, dwelling on a motive, phrase or rhythm here and there but then always proceeding with the greatest ease, creating colorful atmospheres. His compositions are characterized by suspense and structure interwoven with exceptional musical ideas like sparkling jewels.
Voices enhancing and enriching one another, counterparts, complex rhythm patterns, sweet sounds of a flute, three-part brass hymns, savage distorted electric bass lines, harsh dissonant sounds of the keyboard – that is lautgut 76’s broad soundscape. The music appears to be a bizarre complex of discrete musical elements at first sight, but subliminally it melts into a unique harmony. It is jazz at its best – a forceful drive, a laid-back swing seized with improvisation – but never a cliché. Lautgut 76 offers new approaches to experiencing music, approaches that are best to be taken at night, glittering, sweaty and loud."
