LaWanda sings what she calls, Open Heart Music, music that opens the heart and soothes the soul. SHADOWS OF LIGHT came about as a result of her own healing using a spiritual technology called Radical Forgiveness. Even though she had never had a burning desire to record a CD, within six months of beginning to use Radical Forgiveness, LaWanda had recorded SHADOWS OF LIGHT.
But her life before that had been an emotional roller coaster. And in 1996, she tried to commit suicide. Music had always been an integral part of LaWanda's life but during this time of healing after the attempt, this time of rebirth, it was crucial. Music spoke to her soul in a way that nothing else could. She began to re-member and bring back to herself those shadow parts of her humanity that she had hated and denied for so long. And as she did, as the CD liner says, she realized that:
"It wasn't the kind, loving parts of me that needed my love. It was the parts that weren't so pretty. It was those other parts that craved my own love and acceptance because they had never had it. I needed the shadows so I could know my light. In fact, I needed them because I wasn't complete without them. If I wasn't complete without them, then they were perfect just the way they were. They were already a part of the Light and I just didn't know it." And thus was SHADOWS OF LIGHT born.
LaWanda is a certified Radical Forgiveness Coach and Facilitator. She does spiritual coaching, leads workshops and is an inspirational speaker and vocalist. It is her prayer that these songs will touch those hidden parts of you as they did her. For it is only when we embrace all of who we are that we can truly be whole. And as each of us becomes whole, the world is healed.
