Born in Hollywood, California, Lawrence Ethan grew up contemplating his Suburban desert surroundings and aspiring to become a composer. "I had a long walk home from school and I would write rock operas in my head to pass the time". He was introduced to 'Rock & Roll' at a young age through his sister in the form of Queen, Elton John, Aerosmith, and Pink Floyd.
Lawrence began his professional music career at the age of eighteen, sharpening pencils and scrubbing the shower for a chance to see how it all went down. While working in the studio as an engineer, he rubbed elbows with the likes of Tom Werman, and Desmond Child. Before he knew it 1991 had come to pass and he had four gold records to his name.
Inspiration for his music stems from some of the most credible facets in the music industry. Ranging from Pink Floyd to James Taylor. "I've always liked artists that seem approachable like James Taylor. You feel lucky to spend time with them, lucky that they are sharing with you. Sharing personal triumphs and tragedies. 'Yeah I was lost too, but it's ok'."
Lawrence's debut album Rock Paper Scissors is a diverse group of songs ranging from pop to rock.
Take the first single 'Forevermore', a song about going to hell and back with love, giving up on love, and then finding it again. "Just when you think there is no such thing as 'true love', you get blind sided and there's nothing you can do. You think you've seen it all, you think you're jaded, your heart is dead and bam! you're in love, it's a beautiful thing."
Rock Paper Scissors combines pop, rock, and country elements. The Meaning behind the title comes from envisioning rock, paper, and scissors as diverse individual elements that in the context of the traditional game illustrate a perfect balance, no element having more or less power than the others."There's beauty in it's simplicity."
In a time where the singer/songwriter is getting more rare, Lawrence Ethan is the remedy, the void Filler, by Writing, playing and recording all of his own material.

"There was a girl on the street with an oil painted face" epitomizes RPS. The opening lyric from the infectious "Just the Way" marries life on the street to the life of the heart and mind in this propitious debut album. RPS travels myriad roads of love, from the longing and heartbreak of "Someday" and the hard-earned promise of "Forevermore" to "The Hill" - a delicious slice of Alt-Pop - where the narrator vacillates between love-as-play and love-is-work. Concluding with the elegantly simple "With You," RPS reminds us that the road of love is long and twisted, but ultimately worth the ride.
