With pants patched and homemade jewelry attached, Lucas Carpenter demolishes the standards by delivering a new brand of eclectic pop, with lyrics to rival any artist in music today.
"I'm confussed...is it country?...is it soul?... Lucas even has his fans baffled. Musically he throws into his blender anything he can get his hands on, from rock to hip-hop, folk to musical theater, creating a danceable cocktail of deliciousness you'll be humming in the shower Monday morning. But don't let his grooves fool you, beneath his hooks and hippy-sheik style lie poetry for the masses: sometimes serious, sometimes hilarious, but always honest.
Williamsport, PA is not only the birthplace of Little League Baseball, but also of the L-Squeeze himself. After years of working on farms, in toy stores, and as a giant chipmunk in an amusement park, Lucas recorded Sun Bleached Windowpane (2000), performing all the instruments including guitar, dulcimer, flutes, didgeridoo and a multitude of others (at age 17 none the less). He then moved to Pittsburgh a few years later where he began making a name for himself opening for groups such as The Gathering Field, and befriending one of his heroes, Rusted Root. Later that year Lucas released Life's Honest Rhythm (2002), this time with a full band and a much larger sound.
Then in 2003, with a scholarship in hand, Lucas decided to join the ranks of John Mayer and Natalie Mains (The Dixie Chicks) and begin studies at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. During his time at Berklee Lucas has recorded his music with veteran producer Bill Scheniman (Mick Jagger, Carly Simon, Bon Jovi), he won the 2004 Performing Songwriter's Contest, and his song "Morning Touching Down In New York" received #1 in the 2005 Berklee Songwriting Contest. Also, his song "Crimson Crown" was selected from over 400 applicants for Berklee's 2004 Heavy Rotation Records CD, distributed by Rounder Records, proving that Lucas is at the top of his game, even among the immense talent of a world-renowned music school.
In a time of cookie cutter singer/songwriters and movie-star-turned-poets, Lucas Carpenter brings a renewed sense of fun, honesty, and intelligence to today's popular music. He also likes the smell of skunks...seriously.
