Album Notes

Louie Cruz Beltran is more than a gifted musician and composer. He is a charismatic showman. "Live at the Ford" is his second CD, following his outstanding debut studio release, "Its My Time". Recorded live under the stars at the prestigious John Anson Ford Amphitheatre (a Los Angeles County Regional Park operated by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission) on a summer evening, "Live at the Ford" captures Louie doing what he really does best - working a sell out crowd in a festival setting. The response and energy from the audience add even more fuel to Louie's dynamic performance.
All compositions were written and arranged by Louie, with the exception of "Ican" by Eddie Cano. Louie's strong vocals and percussion (he plays both timbales and congas) are backed by some of the top musicians on the vibrant Los Angeles Latin music scene. There is nothing like the excitement of a live Louie Cruz Beltran performance. Whether he is working in LA's top jazz clubs, or performing at major venues like Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas or for the Playboy Jazz Festival, Louie's impact and rapport with his audience is clear.

Live At The Ford

Having worn out Louie’s first CD, Its My Time, I decided I needed to buy another copy and found not only that amazing CD, but Live at the Ford as well. After one play through, I am addicted! 

There are two disappointing points to make. One is that the CD should go on, and on, and on (please tell me there will be a third CD as soon as possible). The second is that the applause portions of the live recorded tracks are not long enough – they do not do this artist justice! 

I have never met Louie, or any member of his talented group of musicians. But the sincerity, immeasurable energy and genuine love of what they are doing comes through so strongly on this recording, it’s as if they are in my living room performing just for me. 

Any performer who has the grace to verbally dedicate a song on his CDs to his mother is a special person in my world. Add to that the enthusiasm, humor, electrified energy, courtesy to his fellow musicians, and talent of this singer and composer – not to mention his phenomenal abilities on the timbales and congas – and you’ve got Louie Cruz Beltran. What I wouldn’t give to experience a live performance!

Orale pues...One of the finest Timbaleros around Louie Cruz not only posesses the talent to make it..his style is like no other...his sharp and charismatic Timbales playing will have you mesmerized.  Do you self a favor and catch his band live...I was blessed with the opportunity of putting this show together for the Hollywood Arts Council tribute to Pete Escovedo and Louie was the not only the right choice...his presence on stage made it clear that he knows how to kick serious Timbales...! He was the right man and band to open up this historic show.

As the MC for this show...I can say that it was an exciting evening of some of the Best Latin Jazz with Louie Cruz Beltran and Pete Escovedo and his Orchestra.  Louie's spirited performance will go down as one of his best.  In front of 1300 + Louie and the band showed why they are one of the elite units of Latin Jazz on the West Coast.
