A diverse, yet connected collection of songs of love and heartbreak, ranging from old-style murder ballads to jukebox country about highways and honky-tonks. By turns fiery, haunting, and beautiful, it's an album you'll want to share with friends.

notes
Recently voted Creative Loafing's Best Local Traditional Folk Act (Reader's Choice) in the Best of Atlanta 2005 edition, the Little Country Giants play "simple, acoustic, country- flavored tunes that'll soothe the ravaged heart" (Jeff Clark, Stomp and Stammer). The core of the band is the songwriting duo of Cameron and Russell Cook on dual vocals and upright bass and guitar respectively. They are joined by flat-picking guitarist Joseph Evans, and sweet country crooner Julie Evans singing the third harmony. "The Little Country Giants take listeners to the front porch of an antebellum mansion. Everyone gets a rocking chair, and the fire flies flames are never extinguished", (David Eduardo, athensmusic.com).

Fabulous music! Both mellow & upbeat songs - perfect for any mood!
author: Amanda GoucherThis CD has a great variety of folk songs, all original, but the best part is the variety. Love the fact that there is a song for any mood. The melodies & lyrics are great. My favorite titles are Breaking Hearts & Living Free & You're everything to me. Beautiful! I'm not typically one to listen to a great deal of folk music, so I would recommend this CD for any music fan.

A completely enjoyable experience that strips the music down so all can ride.
author: Rikks ReviewsWhen first listening to Breaking Hearts and Living Free, Little country Giants sound is stripped-down, honest; simple while incredibly contagious roots music. Roots country with hints of bluegrass, jazz and traditional blues flowing through the core give the Little country Giants their own mark in the music world. The songwriting (all 13 tracks written at least in part by Russell Cook, Cameron, or both) shows hints of A.P. Carter with some more current influences like Kris Kristofferson. Russell and Cameron Cook may not be what Country Music Radio is looking for in their mainstream. There is no polish or attempt to be something they are not. The simplicity is the unique draw of Breaking Hearts and Living Free. While it's not Martina or Toby, the fact is, it's not supposed to be. If you're ready to take a trip in the musical "way-back" machine, this might be just be your ticket. It's completely obvious that Little country Giants love their craft, showing originality and honesty from all the angles. A completely enjoyable experience that strips the music down so all can ride. From the downhearted to songs of true love, the tracks flow seamlessly along as you listen. "Gone For Awhile", "Last Lonely Goodbye", and "More Than Anything" are well worth the CD price on their own, while "Right or Wrong" is one of the best tracks from a songwriting perspective I've heard in some time, reminiscent of any of John Prine's best. Breaking Hearts and Living Free is one of those buried treasures you simply must share once discovered, so my job's done, your turn!
