This rock n roll boy has been a fan of rock and basically just from the 80s backwards. The 90s for the longest time seemed like a total wasteland for the rock music fan. Sure there were the guys like Green Day and Hootie & the Blowfish (yes, I admit I still love them). But overall, I totally ignored most of what happened in the 90s. Sad to say that it took me about another decade to start discovering some of the gold that could actually be mined, if you dug far enough under the piles of boy bands CDs, to find actual gems. I say all this to say that, if Lindy's CD had been released in that timeframe on pop radio, I might have totally missed out on this gem of a CD. Lindy is a great live performer, and it's nice to see her material make it to a full-length CD. The CD starts off with the contemplative Matthew, the gut-wrenching Wrong and then a story song that would make any song writer proud "A little too cautions these days". Lindy comes across in her songs in the way that I would hope that all women would write: smart, confident, but at the same time vulnerable. I love the story of this song, and how you see the progression of the story through this woman's eyes. Next up is my favorite Lindy tune, Careless Love. The first time I saw Lindy live I was blown away by the song. But what could be considered just a simple pop song, has a lot more depth if you listen closely. The overall CD experience is a great pleasure to listen to, and think about those great lyrics. They just don't write things like "I love to search the ocean for the blue of your eyes". I know I probably messed up that lyric, but you get the idea. On top of the great original tunes, the final 3 songs incude two covers and one alternate version of Matthew. Come Together is one of the best covers I've ever heard on the song, I especially like how Lindy changes the notes on "hold you in his armchair...". Paint it black is also a solid cover of the Rolling Stones classic. Overall, I guess you'd have to put this CD in the range of Sheryl Crow and her contemporaries. I highly recommend Lindy in concert as well. She and the guys put on a great show every time!
