Album Notes

The League Bowlers-- "Some Balls"

The artwork alone is reason enough to buy "Some Balls", the debut CD by The League Bowlers. However, for any fan of The Georgia Satellites, Dash Rip Rock, or Bruce Springsteen this CD is an absolute must have.

The album kicks off with a filthy slide guitar solo from guitarist Mike Parks, "Beer Frame Boogie" and never takes its foot off your throat. "Kids Down South" is a Yankee's envious take on the southern party lifestyle. "Pretty in a Slutty Way" is an instant classic that will burn permanently into the listener's brain after only 1 listen. "Half of Me" could have been written by Hank Williams. The Guitar could have been played by Chet Atkins. But no baby, it's pure Bowlers. There isn't a dog on the album. Every single track cooks until wrapping up with a simmering version of Lucinda Williams, "Essence".

I can hear you now, " Guys in matching bowling playing Essence? Isn't that strange?"

The League Bowlers are like no other band. The liner notes tell the story. In a nutshell; Drummer Jim Johnson caught the rock n roll bug after hitchhiking from Ohio to Atlantic City to see Janis Joplin and Little Richard. Underground guitar hero Mike Parks got busted hitchhiking and ended up living with the MC5 for a summer. Bassist Dan Cochran has played in outstanding Midwestern bands such as Big Back 40 & The Bush League All-Stars. When not "Bowling", Singer/Guitarist Colin Gawel plays in cult favorites Watershed.

The League Bowlers hail from central Ohio, and call Wapakoneta, birthplace of Neil Armstrong, home. "He has spent some time in space and so have we", says Parks. Known primarily as a live act throughout the Midwest, the band's sound leans heavily on a firecracker snare and tube amps turned so loud you can feel the hum.

Hicks with Picks and Sticks wobble all over the RocknRoll Map.

this CD is round. The cover is square and has in bowling ball-bags what somegirls had in breast-milky peers of Lucille Fawcett Welch. I believe the bag in the 3rd row, far left, is an unofficial non-licensed reproduction of a limited proto-type used without prior permission and will be recalled for legal reasons on the Tuesday JJ stops smoking. The re-issue should logically contain all LEGAL art. GREAT GREAT stUff.
