Jorge Garrido Lecca

Born in Lima, Peru in 1962. Composer, guitarist, singer and music teacher.
He started playing at 20 and studied with leading musicians
Alejandro Palma, Nelly Suárez, Jean Tarnawiecki and Jorge Madueño.
He gave his first public performance in 1988.

In 1989 he received a grant with backing from Peru's Central Bank to study in
Berlin, Weimar and Leipzig. There he studied with guitarists such as W. Pauli,
Wilzock, C. Spanhoff and Eleonore Uth-Lengwinat, who was his professor in,
Berlin. He represented Peru at the 40th anniversary celebrations of
East Germany. In 1990 he went on to study in Norway with Sven Lundestad and formed part of the Moss choir. During his time in Europe, he performed
concerts in Berlin, Stockholm and Moss.

In 1991, back in Lima, he formed the duo "Danza y una Guitarra" with leading
Local choreographer Beatriz Morachimo, director of the Contemporary Dance
Workshop DANZUL at the Universidad de Lima, making a series of presentations around the country. Since 1994, he regularly performs with his own four-piece Latin-American folk group, fusing Afro-Peruvian, Andean and Latin American rhythms Using both native and electronic instruments. He recorded a series of concerts to produce, Jorge Garrido-Lecca en Concierto (1997), Duo Impromptu - Spanish and Latin Guitar (2000) and his last work about the Mochica`s prehispanic culture " Traslados - a history about Lord of Sipàn " (2003). In December1998 he studied in Barcelona, Spain with guitarist José Ignacio López, director of the Barcelona Guitar Ensemble.

He has taught at Peru's top schools and universities, including Newton College,
the Universidad de Lima, Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazón, the
Peruano-Británico College, the Bela Bartok Academy, the Roosevelt School, the Casuarinas College and Carmelitas School.

He currently heads a guitar workshop and is director of the choir at San Martin de Porres University and guitar teacher at the Carmelitas School. He also runs the ICPNA International Guitar Festival at the Peruvian-North American Cultural Institute, that invites top guitarists from all over the world to Peru every year and the Classical Contemporary Festival of Lima organized by AECI at the Spain Cultural Center.
