Lorraine Leckie is a no-nonsense singer/songwriter whose music combines honest, heartfelt poetry about life and love with beautifully simple melodies, all performed with an attitude that's hard as nails and barely concealing of an aching vulnerability just below the surface. Her debut album, 8 Pretty Songs, showcases Lorraine's beautiful songs in her trademark simple style, featuring nothing more than voice, acoustic guitar, bass and drums, all captured with an especially intimate vibe.
A native of a small town in Ontario, Canada, Lorraine grew up surrounded by the music of Neil Young and Hank Williams, both of whom she claims as strong influences. Gifted with a flair for words, she began to write poetry at a young age and was eventually drawn to make music when more and more people suggested she turn her poems into songs.
Before turning her heart over completely to music, however, Lorraine's artistic side and her desire to see the world drew her to the field of fashion. She became a makeup artist and worked in the fashion industry while living abroad in cities such as Paris, Milan, Hamburg and Sydney, among others. Her life experiences in these environments inevitably have become part of the texture of her music.
Lorraine's most notable influences have come from the French poets Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Verlaine. The particular romance of these poets combined with the lyrical quality of American folk music remain the ideal to which she continues to strive in her own compositions.
Today, Ms. Leckie and her band, Lorraine Leckie & Co., perform regularly at venues in New York City's Lower East Side and in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which Lorraine currently calls home. In addition to these performances and the promoting of 8 Pretty Songs, Lorraine says she looks forward to nothing more in her musical future than continuing her daily ritual of sitting at her kitchen table around midnight, enjoying a beer and trying to solve another puzzle which might turn out to be a song.

A joy to the Soul!
author: Timothy Knauth
This album takes one down the lane- into our hearts, through the soul to the other side, where understanding life's mystery is possible- if only for an instant- to those brave enough to ponder. The world is a better place, thanks to this collection of music.

author: Conscience
8 pretty songs is like sitting on grassy fields with Harold and Maude trippin'on some serious shrooms. It's got dark and deep lyrics, especially in down the lane, like taking a trip down memory lane, but when you throw that strait down acoustic strum melody, and rhythmic drumming smack inbetween you know there's hope for somethin' in this world of ours.
