notes

A warped hand writes, " I waited for my neighbour / to come knock on my door / and lie dead on my floor / just to get some attention." The hand belongs to Josh Lederman and the album is "Serenades from the Gutter." 'Serenades' is a startling and complex collection of songs that brings together a wide range of elements.

Lederman picks up where a number of authors and musicians -- not to mention character actors and stunt doubles have left off, producing an evocative and intelligent work.

he is critical, and he is honest.

Style replaces exaggeration and reflection replaces self-absorption to make "The Gutter" an important contribution to the contemporary pop scene.

Lyrically, an unusual combination of Charles Bukowski and Toni Morrison helps to inform the tough, strange world Mr.

Lederman lives in, Lederman has produced a work that should be listened to.
