Album Notes

Lee Torchia, an American jazz singer, has performed with many famous jazz musicians, including Walter Bishop, Jr., Slide Hampton, Muhal Richard Abrams and Doc Cheatam. This CD, Loverman, has arguably the greatest rhythm section of jazz: Drummer Mel Lewis (of Thad Jones/Mel Lewis fame), Milt "The Judge" Hinton on bass, and Roger "Ram" Ramirez, on piano. Ram is the composer of the famous Billie Holiday hit, "Lover Man, Oh Where Can you Be". Then there's the scintillating Ricky Ford on sax.

Lee travelled from Western music to India. There she studied with the great Indian Raga Vocalist, Pandit Pran Nath. She became his initiated Disciple and she now performs and teaches East Indian Classical Music at colleges in the U.S. Lee is in the studio now and will soon be releasing her new CD "Meditations on Morning Raga, the Microtones of the Ancients".
