If you were to Google or search “Legrand” on the internet, you would find that the origin of the word in Old French meant great or capable of making a huge impact. Although the planet is still feeling the effects of his debut album "illUSIONS OF legrandEUR”, Philadelphia recording artist Legrand is preparing to release his sophomore album entitled “Mr. International” in the fourth quarter of 2008 . There are no smoke and mirrors here; just real hip-hop with a global appeal from an artist that has enough talent to live up to his grand title.
Mr. International is one of several monikers that Legrand has earned by touring overseas in different countries, and by incorporating several different languages into his lyrics. Legrand is proficient in speaking Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese and there are trace elements of each of these cultures in his music.
Legrand's stage show epitomizes the energy of Hip-Hop, and he has opened up for Busta Rhymes, Black Moon, Faith Evans, 112, and even De La Soul. Whether he is B-boying, free styling, or jumping on the turntables, his energy and presence on the mike keeps audiences guessing. Add in the live element of keyboardist Marcellus “Waller Wee” Waller on Fender Rhodes, drummer Wayne Brown and D.J. Brother Jamar, and you have a live experience to rival any level of talent. Upon occasion, during a performance you may see the band members rotate through each other’s instruments.
To sum up Legrand's own words, "A lot of artists get caught up in trying to live up to a record label's perception of reality. To maintain balance, you have to be focused and keep it "all-real", all of the time. That means your lyrics, music, stage performance and video persona should always represent who you are everyday."
This balance is reflected in the universal appeal of Legrand, who delivers with diverse themes and multi-dimensional subject matter. Through this combination of top-notch vocals and tight production, Legrand will reach a goal that countless other artists can not: greatness and the ability to make a huge impact on the world stage.
