LEISUR HIVE - 3 Ton Edition.
Oh, I thought I had Leisur Hive worked out - how wrong was I! What a dark brooding set of unexpected pleasures - like a freak straining at a leash (as Andrea from Living With Eating Disorders said). Seven slices of dark dark rewarding art attack - twitching, thrusting, stabbing rushes of pure adrenaline. There's a sinister edge, like walking in the dark night not quite knowing if those steps behind are actually steps that you need to worry about - and what was that? Is anyone there? Leisur Hive are playing with your senses, your fears, they have you dangling with their beautifully sharp violin and piano and mesmerizing lines of guitar - they don't need noise and violence, they're much deeper than that, they're the ones who have you on their leash, this is power. Dark brooding glowing art, whispers, voices - slightly discordant piano, and just when you think you know they come straight at you with something all opaque and focussed. Leisur Hive are sounding like no one else now, they've gone way above any safe little pigeonhole, there's no one to compare them with - good. Neck Decision is all encompassing, lost in it's own space, it's own room - you don't want to look too close, you might get addicted to it - you'll want to get addicted to it, you'll need to, you'll want that leash around your neck and you'll want to be pulled more and more. Dark, slowly uncoiling post rock open wound adventure to change the way you stand...... highly recommended. Album of the week.
A new album is due for release in May 2008.

Haunting melodic avant punk masterpiece
author: James
As soon as you play Try To Be Still, with that discordant intro melting into epic Arabesque strings, you know this is going to be something special. Repeated rhythms and haunting melodies vie with snarlingly agressive guitars and some genuinely disturbing sonic flourishes, leaving you not quite sure what you just experienced. One of London's most exciting bands at the moment, if you want something different and original with a definite dark streak then you need a copy of this album NOW.

To be totally honest, having read a fair share of Leisur Hive reviews, although always full of praise - I am surprised at how many have failed to mention just how alluring the sound of this band are by using, (dare I say...) the 's' word. Underneath the searing and brooding soundscapes it's not only intelligent, it's yes - sexy!
The ethereal sting of Maria on Violin on tracks such as 'Neck Decision' and 'Try To Be Still' gives Leisur Hive an almost pharaonic sound chaotically caught in their haze of Urban driven anguish.
The intensity and visceral edges to the music make 3 Ton Edition an album that seemingly encompasses not only your ears but the entire environment around you; a thousand imaginary paper cuts that bleed and strip the air with words that stake their importance over all else.
However this is all still possible for Dan Knowler to claim your attention in a vise-like hold when really being far from bolshy or intently confrontational whatsoever; proof that the best music out there really is that which is sincere. The records' nervous disposition only seems to fuel it's power more and snarls like a starved beast...the beauty of each song coming from the fact that it's creation is of caving genius. Why can I imagine Jeff Goldblum growing 6 limbs and wings to this music, over and over?
An abrasive album it may be but what Leisur Hive have created here are eight tracks that teeter between an unashamed pop sensibility and greater distorted sum of angular noise.
Dense yet still addictively accesible, Leisur Hive don't offer you melodies but they offer everything you would find on their sleeves.
Does this all sound a tad confusing?
Well good.
You'll just have to buy the album and hear for yourselves.
