IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS CD:
This CD is *NOT* a "home-made" CDR. It is professionally duplicated on Taio Yuden CDRs with high-quality printed cover and CD body. This CD 100% conforms to the redbook specification and will play on *ALL* CD players, regardless of age. Also note that pre-emphasis filtering was used, which (I am only now aware) is not supported by many modern CD players. Simply turning down the high-frequencies (treble) with the EQ on your hi-fi/cd-player will provide an alternative in this situation.
LeitmOtif is an unusual-sounding artist fronted and, actually, entirely comprised of one man: Alex JT, who has played guitar for numerous other independent/local bands from lounge jazz/rock to classic prog-metal, though his influences are a broad scope beyond either of those.
The answer to the question, "who is AJT?", remains somewhat of a mystery, most likely because of its irrelevance. The more important question is "WHAT is AJT?", though the answer to that question is also still a mystery -- one which is probably best solved by the deciphering and careful analysis of his lyrical content. Some might say that the skill of single-handedly writing, performing and producing a 70+ minute album like this makes AJT some kind of secret lethal weapon. Some others might say this all sounds very pretentious... and they're probably right.
'Sorority' was the first album from LeitmOtif. It's production is not quite the high-fidelity polished finish that the second album, 'Misanthrope' is. It stands as an exciting "home-produced" alt.rock/grunge record with tidbits of pop-punk and a few moments of psychedelia and acoustic.
Alex JT's personal highlights include 'Faith', 'Scrambled Eggs', 'Young Love', 'Sororicide phase II: Sororicide' and 'White Light'. It is clear that thought and care has gone into the track order and, indeed, the album walks some way into concept-album territory.
Listening to LeitmOtif's second album, 'Misanthrope', along side this one, the conceptual/progressive roots and variety of genres of 'Misanthrope' can be heard in a selection of the "less-pop" songs on this one. AJT's method of ending an album mysteriously in a way that engrosses lives as much in 'Sororicide phase III: Take the Pills' and 'White Light' as it does in the second album's final tracks, 'A Night in Her Bed', 'The Morning After' and 'The Secret Pleasure of Mauve-Coloured Hair'.
Essentially, 'Sorority' is a loud, punky, rockin' record with a dose of the romantic, conceptual AJT behind 'Misanthrope'.
