Album Notes

A release flowing from the tide of The Nu-Asian Underground, a "reflection" of current electronic music.
Influenced heavily by the sounds of the Mid-East, a wide range of tempos are represented on this 12 track piece. Resident DJ at the famed Anokha Club in London and a long term collaborator with TALVIN SINGH, the producer/artist melds techno, dub and trance with ancient middle eastern chants, live percussive and melodic instruments. Tones are fortified with reverb, chants of brilliant male and female vocals are looped around spacey tones that conjure visions of flares in the night sky or flowers blooming at super speed during a time-elapsed film.

The artist appears on ORIENTATION with the track "Connection" on Poets Club Records. The sampler captures the essence of Nu-Asian music, a style that originated in London and contains sounds from India mix with sounds from the Mid-East, to form a "chill out" type of music where East meets West in the club and music culture that has now developed into a global movement.

Lelonek also appears on '2001: A WORLD BEAT ODYSSEY ' - a tribute to
DISSIDENTEN, the group ROLLING STONE magazine referred to as the "Godfathers of World Beat". His track 'Funk.ed Up Mix' a version of the album track "Instinctive Traveller" delivers a deep funky spaced out version of one off the group's live favourites.

Lelonek has produced, written and worked as a professional sound engineer in many Recording studios. The list of collaborators is lengthy: MARQUE GILMORE, TALVIN SINGH, CLEVELAND WATKISS and many more.

Recent collaborations include working for Morcheeba (remix: "Let Me See", with Talvin Singh). BLONDIE (remix "Maria" - written and produced by Lelonek),
Lelonek recently travelled to Morocco to record The Master Musicians of Jajouka - a new album released on PHILLIP GLASS' Point Label.

Lelonek has written tracks for Planet Dog Records which appeared on the "Feed Your Head 3" compilation released under the alias "Fathers of Watt".

His energetic Drum & Bass track "Kismet" on the "Anokha - Sounds of the Asian Underground" compilation was released worldwide by Island Records. Lelonek is the only non-asian part of the Anokha crew.

Further releases include "Rashanki" - a track on the "Rhythmic Intelligence" compilation by experimental Belgian imprint Subrosa. The most recent project for Subrosa was a 12" on "Compact vs Subrosa" a collaboration with German techno label Compakt.

For two decades now Friedel Lelonek has been involved in perpetual records, remixes and sound sculpturing - His adventurous synthesis has led him to new heights in Drum & Bass. "The Lelonek sound" was conceived and created during his first encounter with Talvin Singh's seminal 'Anokha' club night, at the legendary Blue Note.

A sought after turntabilist in his own right, Le'lo'nek appears at many of the world's great Global Underground clubs and events. This compilation is a reflection of his talents as a producer and deejay and it is the first of a series that will rock the waves of sound for years to come.

REVIEWS

...best available compilation

The forward-looking Reflections is quite possibly the best available compilation of what has come to be known as Asian Massive. The bulk of these tracks have a freshness that doesn't fade with multiple listens and a bounce that is hard to repress.
