When the Fuse Drives the Flower
On Le Mans' most melodic and textured album to date, producer/performer Jam1sin delves into the previously untouched (for Le Mans at least) subject matter of relationship and loss. Don't worry, the usual blend of disaffected irony, creepy metropolitan atmospheres, and dirty synthetic instrumentation persists; however, it resurfaces with a heightened sense of vulnerability. The distorted mechanical vocals of past albums take a backseat to the more exposed humanized variety. The cocktail of synthesizers is served up so that every click and bleep is heard as well as the occasional swirling guitar licks which have crept their way into the mix. THIRD DATE appeals not only to fans of the various strands of post-electro clash, but also to listeners of New Wave, 80’s, Indie Rock, and Gloompop.

off the hook
author: Tim (Artrocker Magazine)
The charming swagger of the stylish Le Mans is showcased with superb sonic production that bares bombastic beats with groundbreaking synth reinvention that recalls the underground French industrial scene.
The trancy textures of such mezmoirizing epics as "24 Bit Erotic" and "Antidote" cure the craving for craft with shimmering electricity. Le Mans' thunderous rendition of Ministry's trailblazing "Angel" adds a sensual flavor with female vocals and blistering aggression. The daring "Double Barrel" features a furocious chorus that pierces and penetrates propelling an intense array of electrifying dynamics.

Le Mans delivers the ear-candy every time...

Third Date sees Le Mans arriving at a place every indie-electro band wants to be. One minute into the opener, "Plastic Surgery Girl", the listener has an "a-ha" moment. The drums kick in and the guitar is rockin' (almost Jesus/Mary/Chain-ish.) This is the climax of the beautiful opening to not only the album, but one of it's best tracks. The guitar work, soaring backup melodies and driving feel will have longtime fans excessively pleased, while gaining new ones. "Over Your Shoulder" will be a dance-club hit with it's driving beat and great girl/boy vocals. There's awesome production, with atari-squiggles (24 Bit Erotic) layered vocal melodies (Antidote), and relevant subject matter (Text U). By track 8 I was lost in the album's sonic jungle and wonderful flavor that it took awhile to realize the track was a cover of "The Angel" from Ministry's 1986 lp 'Twitch.' A favorite, beautifully executed, updated and perfect for Jam1sin's golden treatments. Finishing this Third Date is "Baghdad Cafe". One word: stunning... it, and the opening track (P.S.G.), serve as bookends to this masterpiece.
