Album Notes

Since the recent release of her self-titled debut CD, Lena Esposito has received considerable recognition from the local DC and Virginia music scene as a reputable songwriter and performer. She has also caught the attention of others outside the area including record labels and publishing companies in New York and Nashville.

Lena's music provides a refreshing alternative with it's reflective lyrics delivered in a clear understated vocal styling. Unique instrumentation such as mandolin, accordion and organ creates color and results in an added depth without overproduction. Under the guidance of five-time Grammy nominated producer, Bob Dawson of Bias Studios, some of the greatest talents in the music industry contribute to her music: Jon Carroll (formerly of the Grammy award-winning Starland Vocal Band) enriches Lena's original material with dynamic accordion and organ undercurrents; Wade Matthews (who tours regularly with Nils Lofgren) adds unique bass counterparts; and Pete and Maura Kennedy of The Kennedy's lend a crucial hand with their subtle guitar and mandolin leads and soothing harmonies.

Playing for a live audience began as a freshman while attending Montana State University in Bozeman. Weekly performances at college bars and restaurants allowed her to pursue and develop original material. After graduation, Lena returned home to immerse herself into the local music scene. Among other places, she has played local music hotspots such as IOTA Club and Cafe, Rhodeside Grill, and TT Reynolds. Lena was also invited to perform live on the Pat Staton show, a popular local music radio show.

Influences include great female artists and songwriters such as Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin, Tracy Chapman, and Natalie Merchant.

Awesome CD--look forward to future releases

After browsing cds on here, like many of us do, I came across Lena Esposito and Ringleader. After demoing their work, I had to make the purchase and haven't been disappointed. It's probably the best cd I have yet purchased on cdbaby. Lena has a beautiful and emotive voice, professionally crafts her lyrics and music, and knows how to sing each song to reach her audience without oversinging or mangling lyrics. Highly recommended. Demo this cd and Ringleader's.
