Lush vocals, absorbing and vivid lyricism, and dulcet hints of indie folk instrumentation comprise the starkly personal and intimately produced debut album by the classically trained Portland-based singer/songwriter.

Album Notes

Ariana Lenarsky's warm and expansive vocal range, deft lyricism, and infectious melodies invoke the poetry of Paul Simon & Joni Mitchell, the singular tambre of Feist's vocals, and the distinct feeling of overhearing mermaids playing mandolin in a cave.

From an interview in Lewis and Clark's The Piolog:

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THIS ALBUM?
“I started writing some of the songs on the album when I was 18, and I’m 23 now...My grandfather died very suddenly during that time, this impossibly funny, gentle man from Brooklyn that everybody loved, especially kids. There’s something so crucial to be an adult that can still relate to kids and the scary, intense world they live in. In making this album, I thought about those beautifully illustrated children’s books by Chris Van Allsburg, the ones that are quiet and beautiful while still being creepy or grand or important. I tried to provide a lot to observe, like reading a picture book with a lot of glittering animals and odd imagery, and it’s sometimes a little unsettling, but I try as a singer to always be a reliable guide—these are slightly ghostly stories, but they’re just stories. Stories to subtly express my big, unsubtle fears about mortality and loss.”
