Jazz pianist Lenore Raphael has been called one of the most swinging artists in the jazz mainstream/bebop genre.
In this album she teams with Florida-based bassist Ron Pirtle for a really swinging session of great Cole Porter standards.
Recorded live, in concert at the Atlantic Music Center in Melbourne, Florida, Ms Raphael plays a nine-foot Steingraeber piano and really puts her fabulous technique to work. Bassist Ron Pirtle swings along nicely and plays some great solos himself.
The two are a perfect match of creativity, without losing sight of the melody.
From the lilting take on I Love You to the funky arrangement of Love For Sale and the haunting ballad, Everytime We Say Goodbye, this collection is a must-have for anyone who loves mainstream jazz and Cole Porter tunes.
Well-known internationally, Lenore Raphael's style has been compared to Oscar Peterson's, Bud Powell's with some Ahmad Jamal and George Shearing touches. Her fabulous long lines and dense voicings create interest and excitement, but she is mainly noted for her emotional takes on tunes.
Ms. Raphael has recorded 6 other CDs, all of which have gotten major airplay on jazz stations internationally.
Her CD, Invitation was up for a GRAMMY nomination in 2006 and her original tunes are often heard on ASCAP streams and on Continental Airlines in-flight jazz stream.
