"Somebody somewhere said you need a disquise-but it's over now, I see you and you're beautiful..." that's Leslie King, totally accessible, deceptively simple, supposedly fragile, but with a surprising undercurrent of steely resolve and unwavering strength as a writer. Her voice follows a similar trajectory. Beginning impressions are of a childlike purity and gentleness that unexpectedly shifts into confidence and a sensual swagger. Leslie King's music emerges as a groovy rock sound that injects a classic soul feel into contemporary production sensibilities. Her musical influences include an interesting blend of Motown Pop, and 60's rock, resulting in a unique writing style that reflects tremendous soul and sensitivity. In addition to completing her current EP, Leslie has also been busy penning tunes for use in film and TV. Her songs can be heard in a range on movie trailers, including the theatrical features "Valentine" and Roger Dodger". Her voice can also be heard on TV episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond", and "Trading Places". Leslie has worked with a variety of for-midable talents including Rick Marotta, Tony Levin, Kevin Hunter, and Doug Besterman.
Leslie Has developed a well-deserved reputation among her peers as a writer's writer, singer's singer, and stylist's stylist. Her taste is uncanny, and as she casually tosses off a new song idea, something that my be unformed or ultimately rejected, she invariably has a room of listeners grooving along rhapsodically, hanging on her every word. She has a disarming way of inspiring the best out of her accompanists.
*** "King has a way of saying something meaningful without being sappy or emotionally manipulative and she puts her lyrics to music that is at once sophisticated an marketable."-Santa Barbara News Press
She can also be heard on stations such as 89.9 KCRW (Los Angeles), influential flagship of al NPR affiliates.
