Album Notes

Leslie Rich is the Belfast singer/songwriter force behind the beautifully energetic and versatile Rocket Soul Choir. The Written Lie was written and recorded over 2001 between his home studio in Belfast, Novatech Studios in Glengormley and the band studio in Minneapolis.

After years of touring in America, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom and Ireland he relocated to Minneapolis in December 2004.

A new album is being recorded and this February will see a return to his home shores for a few dates in Belfast. A short Midwestern tour is also planned this spring

Of the $13 price tag almost all goes to Leslie who is not backed by any major management, promotion or record company. His thanks goes to you for helping keep himself and his music afloat and alive while finding a place for his music to breathe in amongst the clamour of everyone else.

Some copies of his first studio album, "Geeklove" are still available, but MP3's can be attained by sending a tear-stained e-mail to the web site.

Keep independent music alive!

Some of Leslie's friends (If you can find them) are Joan Coffey, Susan Enan and Duke Special - They are worth checking out.

Defining good music in words is a clumsy task…
author: Alan Crawford (Headin' Out. What's On - Belfast Telegraph)

State of the art entertainment facilities such as the Waterfront and The Odyssey might bring the superstars of today, but where do tomorrow’s stars shine? Forget the manufactured TV sensationalism of such shows as Pop Idol and Star for a Night. Instead join Leslie Rich and the Rocket Soul Choir (for) the launch of his 2nd Album, ‘The Written Lie’. This (is a) brilliant new album, full of creeping, probing rhythms, which melt into melodic breaks…. Defining good music in words is a clumsy task….. The point is these are not superficial pop songs: they are born naturally from moods of loneliness, frustration, irrationality, happiness, lust and foreboding. The ability to make music is a gift, to make good music requires devotion, hard work , and faith in what you’re doing. In this way Leslie Rich is not a pop star, he is an artist who has been determinedly applying his craft, both locally and abroad. His diligence in self promotion has led him to set up an American Rocket Soul Choir for his gigs throughout the US. Last summer he wowed Finland in their annual musical festivals. I can only urge you to witness Leslie Rich and the Rocket Soul Choir blast off into another orbit.

Fresh and punchy with some well constructed lyrics...
author: Geoff Harden (On The Road - Belfast Newsletter 11.09.01)

Leslie Rich, like so many others, is more widely appreciated in America than his home town, Belfast. He may be about to put that right with the launch of an outstanding new album, The Written Lie, at Vico’s, in Brunswick Street, this evening. The album is fresh and punchy with some well constructed lyrics and backing from the marvellously named Rocket Soul Choir.

I would recommend it to anyone...
author: Maeve McKeown (Buzz Magazine - BelFest 2001 Review)

This guy is a skilled guitar player with fantastic rhythm. Three songs were not enough for me as this was on of the most original songwriters I’ve seen in a while. He has an album out (The Written Lie) at the end of the month and I would recommend it to anyone.
