Les Poissons Rouges is a four-piece Roots-Rock band from New Orleans. Think 1968–1973, a front porch, and a glass of whiskey; LPR would be your soundtrack.
The band consists of the songwriting duo of Adam Campagna and Jon Harris, with the tasteful and powerful rhythm section of Chris Pylant (drums) and Jason DeBlanc (bass). After Hurricane Katrina displaced so many musicians from New Orleans, Campagna and Harris evacuated to their hometown of Auburn, Alabama, then returned to New Orleans in January with a desire to contribute to and help rebuild the shaken music scene. They found Pylant and brought along DeBlanc from Alabama and naturally started a band forged by common musical interests.
The members of LPR have been sidemen in successful new Orleans bands before; Campagna in Big Blue Marble and Blair Gimma’s band, Pylant in Lynn Drury’s band and The Fessters, and Harris in The Whitey Herzogs and Blair Gimma’s band. This project is different because of the equal contribution of each player to the overall sound.
The music pays respect to the roots of its songwriters while the players use their varied musical backgrounds to add a musically mature original style. Songs like “Nashvegas” and “Brandi” exhibit the Americana tendencies of the songwriters, while “Oh, Alabama” and “Just Another Love Song” rock with a southern swagger. The instrumental texture of the music resembles everything from the Stones to Wilco to Leon Russell.
