James Leva and Purgatory Mountain release their new CD February 1, 2007. Fourteen tunes and songs including several originals by James, traditional tunes from Galax / /Mt. Airy, West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky.
James: Fiddle, Guitar and Lead and Harmony Vocals; Al Tharp: Banjo, Bass, Lead and Harmony Vocals; Danny Knicely: Mandolin, Guitar, Harmony Vocals; Matty Olwell: Cajon, Hambone, Fiddlesticks, Feet, and Foot Stomp.
James Leva plays Bourgeois and Rockbridge guitars and uses fiddle bows made by Lee Guthrie. Winkin Eye was recorded at Al Tharp’s Recording Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana Recorded May 9-12 "There'll Be None On The Other Side", recorded on July 11, 2006 by Les Thompson at Log Cabin Studios in Leesburg, Virginia.

I loved the clawhammer sound on this CD, mixed with traditional Folk, Mountain sound. James Leva is a wonderful, talented artist who has surrounded himself with very talented people on this CD.

My Husband and I thoroughly enjoy this CD. There is not one song on the CD that we skip or pass up while listening. It's a great combination of folk, bluegrass and Celtic sounds. We are very pleased with this CD and will be looking forward to seeing them again live as well as looking for new releases.

Winkin' Eye

This is a really enjoyable CD of traditional and traditional-style songs. I loved James Leva's and Al Tharps's work in the band Freewill Savages and this CD, while more basic than the Freewill Savages style, is equally enjoyable. I'm really happy with Winkin' Eye.
