Boss Witch is a testament to the versatility of free improvisation, a challenge to those who would reduce the virtues of spontaneous musical expression to mere formulas.
Each musican is presented as an individual talent, but also part of a dynamic collaborative process which makes the most out of the moment. National Public Radio's Jazz Critic Kevin Whitehead said of the SR Levis "...this rollicking band revitalizes the so-called non idiomatic idiom." This remains true as Boss Witch proves to be one rollicking record of improvised music that is fun enough to bedevil the best out of apocalyptic culture.
Boss Witch features collaborations between Dennis Palmer (korg 707, cz101, eh 16 second delay, eml 500 analog synthesizer, vocals), Bob Stagner (drums, percussion, alesis d4 electronic percussion), JD Parran (sax), Steve Beresford (grand piano, rapman, sk1, bike horn, quail call), Davey Williams (guitars w/gadgets), Frank Pahl (banjo, shoebuff), and Mary Richards (violin).
The Shaking Ray Levi's have recorded and performed with legends John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Borbetomagus, Reverend Howard Finister, Min Tanaka, and Amy Denio to name but a few. Palmer says of Boss Witch: "...these songs are ah! luv offerin' to the spirit of the ole' timey avant-garde, hope you like 'em."

Like taking a trip through the detritus of the modern musical mind after being hit on the head by a large, heavy object. Slightly off kilter but still with one foot on the ground. Fans of Eugene Chadborune will like this.
