Album Notes

Lonie Levister is a bitch!
Miles Davis
Lonie Levister is unmistakably gifted.
Leonard Bernstein
Alonzo Levister is one of the most passionate and most important composers this country has ever produced. The celebrated – and essentially artificial – war between music know as classical and the music known as jazz does not occur in his work…
James Baldwin

His first album, Manhattan Monodrama, on Charles Mingus's Debut Records included Slow Dance which was recorded by John Coltrane.

Levister crafted a unique blend of European classical and American jazz forms to create his "2 For Love", a double-bill of short Jazz-flavored operas for which he is
currently pursuing an Off-Broadway production as Cabaret
Theatre.

Alonzo Levister is one of the group of great jazz-fusion creators of the period from the Harlem '40's of Minton's Playhouse, to the Paris Caves and New York's 52nd St. and Greenwich Village jazz joints of the '50's and '60's.

Levister has recently re-emerged after thirty years of silence, during which he waged a successful battle with cancer, spent time for several years as an expatriate in Tahiti. His new CD titled "Jazzanova", is a Jazz/Bossa Nova/Blues fusion.

"I've written a lot of music - Jazz, Classical, Musicals
and but I don't know if I will ever do anything as
perfect as this (Jazznova) again". The writing, arranging, the performances of the players, the engineeting and mixing, and a lot of luck, all came together. It really is perfect. Let me know if you agree, or not".

"I'm Lovin'the Jazzanova CD

I happened to be listening to it while I was editing some "road" videos and experienced it as a perfect match!!!! It makes me imagine the girl from Ipanema waiting for me on a moonlit veranda opening to the beach; a balmy breeze caresses her silkly-black hair...cool, yet warm. Keep it up!! Love David

...I wake up to the "Jazzanova" album every morning and don't get up nearly as grumpy as I have in the past. The music soothes the way into my day so beautifully. I love the music.
