ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
ABOUT LEXY AND STEPHANY
VOCAL ORIGINS
Lexy and Stephany feel fortunate to be able to sing music they love and share it with others. Both girls began singing in early childhood, taught by their father. When Lexy was 13 and Stephany 11, they sent a videotape of their singing to the late Shirlee Emmons in New York to get an independent opinion of their progress. Ms. Emmons was a world renowned singing teacher. She was a past president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, teacher of numerous esteemed classical singers, and author of The Art of The Song Recital used by singers worldwide. She wrote in reply:
"I have just finished listening to the girls' recording. I am frankly totally amazed. They are both completely outstanding in every way.... These are brilliant vocal talents. A native gift of high excellence and a level of musical ability that is startling. Clearly, they love performing and are not overawed by the presence of the camera, nor of an audience I am guessing. Their use of the foreign language is nothing less than stunning. If you consider that the four skills a singer must possess are vocal, musical, linguistic and dramatic, they have surpassed any guidelines one could name".
Thus encouraged that their vocal promise was real, they applied for further study of operatic music to the V.O.I.C.Experience program in Orlando under legendary Metropolitan Opera Baritone Sherrill Milnes and his wife Maria Zouves the assistant executive director of Opera Tampa. Although the program was intended for students 15-18 years old they were both accepted after an in-person audition at ages 13 and 11. This was in 2008 and they have continued their study there annually since that time.
They also made several trips to New York to study with Ms Emmons before her recent death at 86 and feel very fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing her and studying with her. Both girls have excelled in various classical singing competitions. In 2010 Lexy entered and won the “Junior Opera Idol” competition for Chicago area high school opera singers while still only a sophomore.
POPULAR MUSIC STYLE
While they continue their classical work they also arrange, write, and sing pop and rock music. They are both lyric/coloratura sopranos and sing popular music with a style and in a range that is different from the traditional pop and rock sound. Most female popular singers today use primarily the middle and lower registers of their voice. The upper registers which are popular in operatic, classical and older popular music have been largely abandoned. Lexy and Stephany think that this upper range "head voice," and especially the range above the soprano “passaggio” (at about F5, an eleventh above middle C), when used in combination with the lower and middle registers, enhances the beauty and power of all kinds of popular music.

CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES
The girls have also tried to use their vocal talents to help those less fortunate, singing for the Rotary, Shriners, and other charitable organizations. Most notably, however, they have established a continuing relationship with the “Misericordia Home” This unique and wonderful institution houses more than 500 developmentally challenged children and young adults in a beautiful campus in Chicago; and provides vital services to 500 others off site: but needs funds to expand its services to its long waiting list. Lexy and Stephany originated and present an annual fundraising concert for Misericordia to help fund this expansion of services: most recently on May 8, 2010 at Ravinia’s state of the art Bennett Gordon Hall with their friend, noted tenor Christian Ketter, from which all proceeds were donated directly to Misericordia. The last 5 songs from this CD were recorded live at Ravinia from this 2010 concert which was entitled: “Opera and Show Tunes Greatest Hits.”
They also enjoy singing for the residents at Misericordia, many of whom are otherwise unable to travel to hear them sing. The third annual concert for Misericordia will be held at the beautiful new Ryan Hall auditorium on the Misericordia campus on April 16th, 2011.

OTHER SINGING
The girls have been featured on CLTV, WGN radio, at US Cellular field singing the National Anthem for The White Sox, at Welsh-Ryan arena for Northwestern University basketball, at patriotic events, and elsewhere. They have a regular show at the well known Monastero's restaurant. They were recently called the "New American Idols" in a review of their "Come Sail Away" music video by critic Seth Abramovitch on movieline.com.

TENNIS AND SCHOOL
Their main hobby is tennis. They practice daily and compete in USTA tournaments in various states almost every weekend. Both are nationally ranked and enjoy playing against each other when they are not playing matches against others. At this writing Lexy (left below) is a high school junior and Stephany an 8th grader.

ABOUT THIS CD

SONG SELECTION
Lexy and Stephany like singing, and listening to, all kinds of music. They, and many of their friends, would prefer to hear a grouping together of well written songs from a variety of different musical genres than a single genre collection that has some good and some less memorable songs. Their new CD is based on that principle. It includes their own original pop songs, as well as some of the best classic rock, adult contemporary and even opera ever written. The common thread is the distinctive sound of their voices.

ORIGINAL SONGS
There are four original new songs on this CD. Working with their father, Lexy and Stephany have co-written three of them: Something More, Forevermore and Heroes of Freedom.
These songs have elements of rock, pop and jazz. Something More explores a relationship gone wrong. Forevermore describes the happiness of a relationship that is right. Heroes of Freedom honors all those who have sacrificed to preserve the freedom of the human spirit. It illustrates the interconnectedness of American freedom fighters/workers with those from around the world and down through time. The fourth original song on the CD, This Feels Like Love was written by noted songwriter Charles A. Sermay Jr. and specifically given to Lexy and Stephany by the publisher because he felt that their distinctive style of singing would ideally express the upbeat message of this appealing song.

"OPEROCK"
Four classic rock songs, Come Sail Away, Stairway To Heaven, Holding Out For A Hero and Dancing Queen combine operatic singing techniques with rock rhythms: an amalgam Lexy and Stephany like to call “Operock”. They feature soaring high notes and harmonies that work synergistically to accentuate the driving rock rhythms.

ADULT CONTEMPORARY
Four other pieces, My Heart Will Go On, The Prayer, I Will Always Love You
and You Raise Me Up are from the adult contemporary songbook. In My Heart Will Go On Lexy’s lyric soprano timbre is used to create an almost ethereal mood that lends itself to the afterworldly message of this song; and contrasts with the usual pop alto range in which it is generally sung. Equally unique is their arrangement of The Prayer as a soprano-soprano duet, instead of the tenor-soprano duet arrangement made popular by the great duo of Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. In I Will Always Love You Stephany's rich soprano accentuates the powerful high notes. In You Raise Me Up the girls are further inspired by performing the song with the talented Misericordia "Heartbreakers" performers. These last two selections are from the their "Second Annual Concert for Misericordia" (see below) and were recorded live at The Bennett Gordon Hall at Ravinia.

OPERA
The "Second Annual Concert for Misericordia" featured a number of operatic arias. Three of them: the lively Je Veux Vivre from Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette" sung by Lexy, the classic Summertime from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" sung by Stephany, and the gorgeous Flower Duet (Dome Epais) from "Lakme" by Delibes are also included as live bonus tracks on this CD.

The following are the lyrics for the original songs

THIS FEELS LIKE LOVE TO ME
Charles A. Sermay Junior

I don't have a care, I seem to walk on air Autumn turns to spring, I can do anything
Love got hold of me, I know it's gonna be
Everything from quiet nights to shooting stars and shooting lights
Where up is down and left is right. This feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)

I see rainbows in a clear blue sky, I hear knights when singing lullabys,
When I'm in your arms I want to fly, This feels like love to me.
I believe in all my fantasies, every day's a sunny day for me,
I see now why butterflies are free, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me),

When your love touched me, I could not help but see,What I missed before, I thought I knew the score,
Life was empty then, you filled that ache within,
With all the love you had to give, so strong and yet so sensitive,
You made me really want to live, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)

I see rainbows in a clear blue sky, I hear knights when singing lullabys,
When I'm in your arms I want to fly, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)
I believe in all my fantasies, every day's a sunny day for me,
I see now why butterflies are free, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)

Ba da da da...

I see rainbows in a clear blue sky, I hear knights when singing lullabies,
When I'm in your arms I want to fly, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)
I believe in all my fantasies, everyday's a sunny day for me
I see now why butterflies are free, this feels like love to me (this feels like love to me)
I believe in all my fantasies, everyday's a sunny day for me,
I see now why butterflies are free
This feels like love to me, this feels like love to me.

SOMETHING MORE
Lexy, Stephany and Chad

I don't know what went wrong with us baby, I don't know, I don't know
I don't know why we had to part baby, I don't know, I don't know
I don't know why the sun's not shining, I don't know why the birds aren't singing
I don't know and I just don't care anymore, what was it all for?

I didn't see that we grew too close baby, I didn't see, I didn't see
But the joy that we used to have baby, was all gone, not meant to be
But I knew we had to stop this whining, get a grip and learn to end this pining
For a bond that was just not there, baby anymore, it was over that's for sure

And it just shows that it's wrong, to get too close before you're ready to settle down
Married to someone you love. Sounds old fashioned I know, but I believe it's so,
When you're young you should grow not pair off. This I know

Now I know that it wasn't my fault, in fact there is no fault to give
And like Elle I am feeling much better now that there is room to live
We had fun and learned from each other, and in time we will find another
But my heart won't be an open door, unless I feel there's something more

Things work out for the best they say, and the sun is shining on a new day but
There's one thing I that I believe for sure, we all need, yes indeed, best believe
Baby, something more. Something more.

FOREVERMORE
Lexy, Stephany and Chad

When we’re together the day is bright and when we are not nothing is right
You are the sunshine of my life, my light, you ease my strife
When we’re together it always means, the hours will pass in seconds it seems
Hard work is easy, worries far, from wherever you are

You know the world says increasingly, you needn’t think and never care
But knowing someone like you has shown me
That care and thought and feeling yet are there

And when I see you each night, I know no lovelier sight
For you are mine and I am yours, together forevermore
For you are mine and I am yours, together forevermore

The enemy driven away, remember that
No matter how hard you try, and bleed and cry
You cannot make evil die, it will live on
You'll only drive it away, it will return
It seeks the weak as its prey
But not when it knows there's a price it will pay

We hold these truths to be self-evident to see
That all people are equal With the right to be free, So honor
Heroes who fight for freedom, Heroes who fought for freedom
Heroes who fight for liberty
