Gilliam VOCALS, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Lisa Gilliam. VOCALS is an acronym for Vocalist, Orator, Consultant, Actress, Lyricist, and Saved, all describing characteristics of Lisa. The mission of the corporation is to uplift, encourage, and enhance the lives of people who have been emotionally or physically hurt through the performance, literary, and communication arts. The vision is to use the arts to spread the love of God, heal the broken-hearted, and win souls for Christ.

In order to carry out the mission of the corporation, Gilliam VOCALS, Inc. sponsored or co-sponsored events such as "4th Friday's' Praise Festival, Celebrate Life Concert, Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs Concert, and the Past to Present Conference and Concert. Organizing these events along with the corporation motto, "Doing All Things To The Glory of God", adapted from I Corinthians 10:31 and Colossians 3:17 has allowed Lisa to minister in song, spoken-word, preaching, or teaching to a variety of people. Although this was a blessing, in 2009, Gilliam VOCALS, Inc. shifted its focus from planning and organizing events, to finding other creative ways for Lisa to evangelize and carry out the mission and vision of the corporation while singing, writing, and speaking.

Lisa received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama with a minor in vocal music performance from Virginia Union University (VUU) in 1995. She went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Community Counseling from the George Washington University (GWU) in 1999. That same year, she completed training as a minister, preached her initial sermon, and was licensed. Later on she was ordained as an evangelist. Lisa has been employed as a counselor, consultant, and educator in DC Metropolitan areas schools and non-profit agencies. Artistically, she has worked as a radio co-host, writer, poet, booking agent, promotions coordinator, and vocalist. Thus, you will find Lisa ministering wherever God creates an opportunity for her to minister.

In fact, since her first cd, Past to Present, comprised of gospel music and spoken-word/poetry was released in 2004, Lisa has openly shared her testimony of God's goodness, grace, mercy, and healing that has taken place in her life. She combines Biblical principles with spoken-word, creative writing, and singing as she shares her testimony about how she learned to forgive and overcome the effects often caused after experiencing sexual abuse, molestation, acquaintance/date-rape, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, and situational depression. It is Lisa's sincere desire that the ministries and talents God has birthed within her continue to uplift, encourage, and enhance your life!
