LA-based musician Libbie Schrader first made headlines when she and her band Think of England won the Pantene Pro-Voice "New Voice of 2001" Competition in New York's Central Park. Schrader and her band beat out over 1,200 other female-fronted acts for the award. Prizes included a nationwide tour with Poe and a demo deal with Atlantic Records.

In the summer of 2002, Schrader's band also opened three theater shows on Jewel's "This Way" tour as part of Jewel's "Soul City Cafe" program for independent artists.

Libbie Schrader is now a solo artist with a soulful piano-pop style. Her new CD, "Letters to Boys" will be released on a nationwide tour in the spring of 2004. $1 from each CD sold will benefit the Portland, Oregon-based charity Mercy Corps.

Mercy Corps is an international relief and development organization that exists to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by helping people build secure, productive, and just communities. a pleasant collection of piano ballads

A pleasant effort from Libbie to follow-up after her Think of England work. The CD is a bit short, 8 tracks plus one hidden live track, under 40 minutes total.  It's mostly a collection of mid-tempo piano ballads with some mildly produced guitar/bass/drums backing, although track 5, titled Leave Me Now, rocks out towards the end, and is my favorite on the album.  One song (Sweet Baby) is a slower tempo rework of the same song she recorded with Think of England. Her songs aren't as driving as Fiona Apple, or as deeply personal as Sheila Nicholls, or as free-formed as Tori Amos.  But if you liked Think of England, or if you like female singer-songwriters in the style of Shawn Colvin, you'll enjoy this CD.
