"THE FLUTE & VOICE OF LIBBIE JO"
Known in the Los Angeles area as a front-line flutist, Libbie Jo is becoming recognized as a songstress with a most distinctive vocal ability. Growing up in a household where music was predominant (her mother was a dance teacher and her father, a pianist), Libbie Jo gravitated toward the marvelous standard material of the day, as well as developing a taste for jazz, heard via Chicago radio.
When her friend and producer Jane Getz heard Libbie Jo's singing voice, she immediately took her into the studio for a test recording, later commenting, "the tape loves Libbie Jo's voice." Development money was provided by a record company and the adventure began.
Over a period of several years the project (recorded at Local 47) evolved into a finished CD weaving together a blend of jazz standards such as "My Old Flame" and "S'Wonderful" with originals penned by Libbie Jo, Getz, Phil Ranelin and other L.A. musicians, including the upbeat "Toot Da Flute" to the wistful "Summer At Last" -- a last minute addition featured in the film "Made Up" that won the Independent Voice Award at the 2002 Santa Barbara Film Festival.
"The Flute & Voice of Libbie Jo" is already being recognized in the music world. Paul Horn comments, "Wonder flute! Fantastic vocals!" Derek Sivers of CDBaby.com says, "Her CD is excellent! Where is my tuxedo and martini? I can tell she'd be a great catch live." Vocalist Sue Raney states, "Beyond being a wonderful flutist, her singing enchants you." Her songs are lovely and interesting."
Libbie's resume is extensive, including musical performances with such notables as Paul Horn, Buddy Collette, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. She has worked as a studio musician in L.A. and is also a strong presence on the L.A. club scene.
Her choice of Steve Cotter on guitar, Henry Franklin on bass, Paul Kreibich and Tom Sala on drums and percussion (in addition to Jane Getz on keyboards) to accompany her is superlative.
"The Flute & Voice of Libbie Jo" is distributed by North Country Distributors and is available online at CD Baby, at Tower or Virgin Records, your specialist jazz dealer.

Every time my husband and I play this CD and friends are over, we'll be talking away when they stop short and say, "Who is this?! She's amazing!". I bought the CD for my Dad as a birthday present and he told me he put it in while he was tinkering around the house and all of a sudden realized he had a big grin on his face! The first words out of his mouth when I called to wish him a happy birthday were, "Where do you find these artists?!" We really enjoy this album and it is one of our favorites to play, especially when friends are over.
Buy it - it is wonderful!
author: Lisa & Peter from the Married FlutesI love Libbie Jo's wonderful album - she is talented and inspiring and her musicianship is outstanding! More please!
Clever, sassy, sophisticated, and cool
author: NL JohnsonThese are wonderful tunes, with some nice original material and other nuggets by others. The flute is the predominant instrument, but it does not overwhelm. Libbie is a wonderful singer and the musicianship and sophistication of the production is first class. It's got elements of pop, jazz and easy listening but I never got bored or felt it was cliched. Truly an original work.
Five flutes AND she sings? I had to hear this songwriter for myself, and so sho
author: Maria JacobsNot one, not two, not three...FIVE! Five flutes ranging from piccolo to alto. It's enough to make this singer/flutist blush and smile at the same time. Libbie Jo Snyder is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who's originality doesn't end with the songs she composes. Check out her treatment of Rogers and Hammerstein's "Whistle a Happy Tune." This crooner's got some funk in her soul. (Not to mention guitarist Steve Cotter in her band.) Check out her CD, then do yourself a favor and hear her live... I did, only to be even more pleased.
